“Walking the walk” with teacher education candidates: Strategies for promoting active engagement with assigned readings. I found this article that talks about engagement and how this helps with reading comprhension. It talked about how when students are engaged to the text they can make connections and better understand their reading. http://0-search.ebscohost.com.library.touro.edu/login.aspx?direct=true&db=eft&AN=508030135&site=ehost-live The title to this article is Instruction, Student Engagement, and Reading Skill Growth in Reading First Classrooms. International Journal of Instruction July 2011 ● Vol.4, No.2 e-ISSN: 1308-1470 ● www.e-iji.net p-ISSN: 1694-609X READING ENGAGEMENT: A COMPARISON BETWEEN EBOOKS AND TRADITIONAL PRINT BOOKS IN AN ELEMENTARY CLASSROOM Troy Jones Asst. Prof., East Carolina University, USA [email protected] Carol Brown Assoc. Prof., East Carolina University, USA I couldn't find a link to this article I found on ERIC so I copied and pasted the title, Vol. and ISSN etc. I don't know if this will work but I liked it because it's about how using e-books in the classroom can be more engaging and help with reading comprehension.

After doing the IRB training I realized that a lot goes into doing research especially if it will be conducted with humans. I had no idea that there were so many regulations that we have to follow. For now my driving question has to do with how to engage students so that they can retain information that will help with reading comprehension. I need to know if and how to get parents to sign permission for my students to participate. I am not sure how or where to get the forms parents must fill out. I am a little overwhelmed because I am not sure after reading the IRB tutorial what research type I will be conducting if I am using my classroom.
As far as the need to knows for my research I would need to find out what different engagement strategies I can use for my third graders that will help with reading comprehension. The way I would measure if the strategies I am using will help, would be by administering our usual weekly comprehension tests and analyzing the results. The results would have to show improvement to tell me the new strategies have worked and have in fact helped my students reading comprehension. |
